How Do I Know if a
Post was Accepted How Do I Know if a Post was Accepted?
You can always know a post was accepted if you receive it back in the
same manner you receive any other post from the Listserver. Also, all
successful posts are archived as a collaborative effort of Shepherd Miller,
Inc. of Fort Collins, Colorado, USA , Applied Biosciences, Inc. of Salt
Lake City, Utah, and Schaffner Applied BioGeoSciences, LLC at http://206.196.138.170/archive/home.asp.
You can always check that archive to determine whether your post was accepted. Inability to Post Messages to Listserver:
In general, there are but two possible reasons for subscribers being
unable to post messages. The first is that intended posts did not comply
with the posting guidelines included in "How
to post messages." For example, if the intended post did not
include a proper subject header beginning with either "BG:"
or "Re: BG:" or if the post was not a plain text document, it
was rejected. To resolve such problems, revise the post to comply with
posting guidelines and then re-send it.
The second reason for posting problems is that the post was not sent
from the member's subscription e-mail address (i.e., the address from
which they initially subscribed). For example, if the member is subscribed
at work, but not at home, that member can ONLY post from their work account.
To resolve such problems, re-send posts from your subscription address.
In addition, the problem can stem from a change in the member's e-mail
address that occurred AFTER they initially subscribed. In many instances,
address changes occur without the member's knowledge, such as often occur
when organization's add "firewalls" to protect their servers. To identify
whether this is the problem in your case, examine the rejected message
for your e-mail address. If that address differs from your subscription
address, the Listserver will automatically reject any attempted posts
from that address. To resolve, unsubscribe the old address and then re-subscribe
your new one. This is easily accomplished by visiting Mailing
List Summary Form and using that electronic form to unsubscribe the
old address. If you have difficulty resolving this problem, please see
your systems operator.
Note: Given the size of the Listserver (>2,400 subscribers), it is
not practical for Schaffner Applied BioGeoSciences, LLC. (SAB) to make
certain each subscription address is valid. Therefore, it is common for
members who post messages to the Listserver to receive a few bounced back
messages from bad addresses after successfully posting messages. Note
this does NOT mean the post was rejected by the Listserver -- only that
it did not reach the specific member listed on the bounced message. (Note
you can always tell if a post was successful if you receive it back from
the Listserver in the same manner you receive other BioGroup posts.)
Problems with Unsubscribing Listserver:
In general, this problem is related to a change in the member's e-mail
address that occurred AFTER they initially subscribed. In many instances,
address changes occur without the member's knowledge, such as often occur
when organization's add "firewalls" to protect their servers.
For example, if you attempt to unsubscribe using Mailing
List Summary Form, and receive a message back indicating "An
error occurred while processing your request...," then it is likely
you did not enter a correct subscription address and your request failed.
To resolve that problem, determine the date you first subscribed and then
ask your systems operator for your COMPLETE e-mail address at that time.
Then, visit Mailing
List Summary Form to remove that address from the Listserver.
Receiving Bounced Messages following a Post:
If you receive messages such as "Re: Out of Office AutoReply:"
after you post, that just means that the sender's e-mail client was using
an active autoresponder that responded to your post by sending you a message.
Just delete that message.
Also, given the size of the Listserver (>2,400 subscribers), it is not
practical for SAB to make certain each subscription address is valid.
Therefore, it is common for members who post messages to the Listserver
to receive a few bounced back messages from bad addresses after successfully
posting. Note this does NOT mean the post was rejected -- only that it
did not reach the specific member(s) listed on the bounced message(s).
(Note you can always tell if a post was successful if you receive it back
from the Listserver in the same manner you receive other Listserver posts.)
Receiving Multiple, Redundant Posts from the Listserver:
If you are receiving multiple posts from the Listserver, you have more
than one subscription address. To resolve, unsubscribe the extraneous
address(es).
You Unsubscribed the Listserver but Continue
Receiving Posts: If this occurred, then you did not successfully unsubscribe. To resolve,
please see "Problems with Unsubscribing Listserver."
